SUPPORT FREEDOM WITH THE CHINA SUPPORT NETWORK!

YOU CAN SUPPORT FREEDOM IN CHINA! You've come to the right place to find out about China's situation, learn what Tiananmen Square was all about, and start making a real difference. With us, you can help bring democracy to the world's largest population.

Welcome to the China Support Network. (Want to help right now for free, with just a few clicks and a few seconds of your time? Join our mailing list!)

June 3-4, 2004

Today is the 15th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre in Beijing, China. In the spring of 1989, students began protesting for reform. In the beginning of summer, the Communist Party responded by sending soldiers to kill demonstrators and bystanders. The world was shocked at the carnage. Today we commemorate the efforts of those students and condemn, once again, the brutality and oppression of China's totalitarian regime. (Linked from this page is a list of our special commemorative and educational "Fifteen years ago today" articles taking you back to the events of Tiananmen Square.)

But just as relevant is what's happening today, even as you read these words. China's people today do not have human rights or freedom any more than they did 15 years ago. China's laogai (gulag) system holds millions for forced labor in brutal conditions without a fair trial, including many prisoners of conscience who are free of any crime. Falun Gong members and House Christians are brutally persecuted, tortured, and killed. Tibet is occupied and its people subjugated. The Chinese can't even look up many sources of news and information on the internet; the government is afraid for them to be exposed to freedom. Oppression and atrocities in China are not a thing of the past, but an ignored fact of the present.

China's people need freedom, just like the freedom we have. Imagine your life if you had no right to free speech, no voting for your government officials, not even protection from beating and torture or the right to avoid forced abortion and sterilization. Imagine a free China. The situation must change--and together, we can change it. Here's how you can make a difference right now, no matter what your situation.

1. Join the China Support Network.

Just by the simple action of joining our mailing list, although it only takes a few seconds and it's free, you will be making a significant contribution to freedom in China. Just think--only a few clicks with your mouse makes China's liberation more possible! It's that simple.

By joining, you will be able to keep up with the latest news and events relating to China democracy. As the audience for the message of freedom expands, worldwide awareness is raised, and this brings us closer to our goals. Even better, you will have access to opportunities to get involved and make a difference in a way that suits you personally--whether it's as tame and quick as signing an online petition, or as active as participating in a pro-democracy rally.

So before diving into the main sections of our web site, take a moment to join CSN and take your first step towards helping the people of China become free. The China Support Network is the premier organization for American activism in support of the Chinese democracy movement, promoting and working for China freedom since 1989.

2. Boycott for freedom.

Your dollars are important. China's totalitarian government has lots of money from Western trade to spend on oppression of its own people, military build-up threatening others, and propaganda.

The U.S. House of Representatives recently admitted that trade with China had not brought about the changes they had expected in human rights and democracy. The trade is also doing serious damage to industries, jobs, and economy in America and other countries. But governments and businesses are not going to lead the way to correct the situation; that task falls to concerned citizens.

Five years ago, China's general Chi Haotian (in a position similar to America's Rumsfield) referred to war with America as "inevitable." And China's threats toward Taiwan never cease. Another Chinese official hinted that China has nuclear missiles and America cares more about L.A. than Taipei. Are you sure you want to keep financing People's Liberation Army tanks and missiles every time you go through the check-out lane?

Besides withholding funds, boycotting China also sends a loud pro-freedom message to businesses and governments. Boycotting is as simple as looking at the labels and choosing products not made in China whenever possible. Start by joining the China Support Network (see above) and then be careful what goes in your shopping cart. We'll provide you with support in your boycott and your shopping!

3. Make a donation.

Freedom isn't free. China's regime gets loads of money from all that trade to spend on their anti-freedom activities. The China democracy movement, meanwhile, is running on an empty tank and struggling to make ends meet while it takes on one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century.

We need your help to bring freedom to China and make an end to the Communist Party's history of oppression and aggression. You contribution will make it possible for us to do more activism, more support for dissidents, more countering Beijing's propaganda, more informing the world of China's atrocities and lack of freedom, more reaching out directly to China's people, more warning about the threats posed by the PLA Army, and more demands to governments to adopt sensible policies toward China.

You can make it happen. Whether it's five dollars or five thousand, your contribution to liberty will make a real difference, and a China citizen of the future may thank you for making his or her freedom possible.

Your contributions are deeply appreciated by those who work for freedom and those who need it.

4. Speak up for the oppressed.

It's been 15 years since Tiananmen, and many people still don't know what's going on in China and what's needed to bring freedom to the world's largest nation. Help us get the word out.

If each person who joined China Support Network also got two other people to join, and those two others each did the same, and so on, then the democracy movement would soon be a heavyweight! Use this button to tell a friend about CSN.

You can also bring up the subject of China freedom and human rights in your home, school, work, church, or organization. The more people hear about the situation, the better.

We also need people writing to their government officials, to businesses and organizations, and to media to demand sensible China policy and bring attention to the plight of China's people.

Ready to speak out? First, join CSN (see above) and we'll keep you informed about ways to make your voice heard. Then, if you want to do something instantly, head on over to the Pressure section of our site to send a message on our current action issue right now!
